Hendersonville Community Information

Artifacts dating back to the Ice Age have been found in Hendersonville and the surrounding area. The region is known to have been the common hunting grounds for several Native American tribes. European settlers did not arrive until the late 18th century, when the Bledsoe's Lick settlement was established. Hendersonville, named for postmaster William Henderson, was incorporated in 1969.

The most popular snapshots of history within Hendersonville include Monthaven, Rock Castle and Trinity Music City, USA. Monthaven, a 140-year-old antebellum mansion, was used as a Civil War field hospital and is now the home of the Hendersonville Arts Council. The Council displays paintings, photographs, sculptures and other works of art. There is also a gift shop which sells local artwork, quilts, jewelry and books. Monthaven also hosts free concerts in late spring and summer.

Rock Castle is Hendersonville's other well-known historic home. The limestone mansion was built in the late 18th century by former U.S. senator General Daniel Smith. The furniture, accessories and woodwork of the home are 18th century antiques, reflecting an authentic version of life in that time period. The property is located on the shores of Old Hickory Lake.

Trinity Music City, USA is home to the Trinity Broadcast Network auditorium, Virtual Reality Theater, the Solid Rock Bistro and a recreated, walled Jerusalem city. The estate was originally built by country music legend Conway Twitty. Tours of his home and garden are available.

Sports and art enthusiasts alike will enjoy Hendersonville's proximity to Nashville. Nashville's professional sports teams include the Titans in the NFL and the Predators in the NHL. For a more cultural experience, one can visit the Frist Center for the Arts or the Tennessee Performing Arts Center, which serves as a venue for plays, musicals and opera. Children will enjoy the Adventure Science Museum or the Cheekwood Botanical Gardens.
